Flash Memory To Cost $9 Per GB In 2009

CNET is running a feature about the future of flash storage. Offering nearly instantaneous boot-up times and reduced energy demands, computer manufacturers are anticipating an expected drop to $9 per gigabyte by 2009. Flash currently costs about $45 per GB. Though conventional hard drive storage will likely remain the preferred form of memory hardware (which costs about 65 cents per gigabyte) well into the next decade, its inclusion is all but guaranteed to benefit mobile phones and laptops.
"How would you like 15 hours of battery life on a notebook rather than three or four? What if you didn't have to go through that stupid boot-up sequence?"
